LGBTQIA2+ Affirming Care

I provide a respectful & inclusive space to honour your lived experience and understand how your identity, relationships and systemic factors shape who you are.

You never have to justify who you are or why you are here. As a therapist, I am always learning about your experiences and ways I can support the community and become a better ally. This is a space where you can show up fully and authentically. Whether you’re exploring identity, navigating relationships, or working through anxiety, trauma, or life transitions.

Neurodiversity-Affirming, ADHD-Informed Care

Being neurodivergent is a natural and valuable part of being human. Just as we all have different eye, skin or hair colour, our neuro-type can make us feel different from what society considers “normal”. Together we explore the experience of being neurodivergent, discover ways to best support you as you begin to understand that you are navigating a world that operates with a different set of rules. We focus on strengths, emotional regulation, realistic strategies, reducing shame and creating an environment where you can feel safe. Never on “fixing” you.

Whether you’re diagnosed, self-identifying, or exploring neurodivergence for the first time, we move at your pace and focus on what helps you feel understood, supported, and grounded.

Specialized Support for Women, Inclusive of All Genders

My practice has evolved to understand how societal expectations, caregiving roles, trauma, neurodivergence, and major life transitions uniquely shape our mental well-being.

This is a space where your experiences are taken seriously, your identity is respected, and your care is guided by a compassionate, intersectional lens.

Trauma‑Informed Care

To work from a trauma-informed space is to understand that our life experiences may be rooted in trauma and that it is important to prioritize safety, choice, and collaboration in every session. We move gently and at your pace, with close attention to your comfort, boundaries, and nervous system.

This approach isn’t about revisiting painful memories — it’s about creating a space where you feel grounded, empowered, and supported as you make sense of your experiences and reconnect with your strengths.

My name is Jennifer Christopherson

Registered Counselling Therapist | BA, BSW, MACP, CCC

Hi, I’m glad you’re here.

I support people navigating trauma, burnout, ADHD, autism, and the emotional weight of caring for others. My approach is compassionate, grounded, and deeply human—focused on safety, understanding, and connection rather than perfection.

Many of the people I work with feel exhausted, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves after years of putting others first. You may be living with unresolved trauma, chronic stress, or a desire for more clarity and calm.

My work helps you heal trauma, reduce burnout, navigate ADHD or autism in ways that honour your strengths, and reconnect with your identity and inner voice—so life feels aligned, not just held together.

In our sessions, you can expect warmth, patience, and gentle, evidence-based support. You don’t have to do this alone.

FAQ

  • Is therapy right for me?

Many people think that therapy is just about dealing with the existing trauma or extreme situation.

Therapy can be a valuable tool for providing insight into the stage of life you are in right now. Need to make decisions? Torn between several ideas? Feeling the weight of responsibilities or just plain needing to “adult” when we don’t want to.

  • What are the 4 stages of therapy?

Therapy is an ever-evolving process. Generally, when one comes to therapy, they are already aware of a problem that they need to talk about, so they are aware of patterns, thoughts or challenges that are complicating things.

Together we can explore the root causes of those problems, from looking at past experiences, family dynamics, culture or societal barriers that are causing stress.

Therapy is not a straight line. While growth can come from that healing and exploration, you may become aware of other changes that you would like to see.

  • What is trauma-informed care?

Trauma-informed care is an approach to counselling and therapy that recognizes how past experiences can impact your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. I focus on creating a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where you feel in control. This approach is especially important in trauma therapy, as it can help you heal at your own pace without feeling overwhelmed.

  • What are the 7 trauma responses?

While many people are familiar with “fight or flight,” trauma responses can show up in many different ways.

The 7 commonly recognized trauma responses are: fight, flight, freeze, fawn, flop, friend, and fatigue.

These are natural reactions your body uses to protect you during stressful or overwhelming experiences. In therapy, understanding your trauma responses can be an important step toward self-healing and developing healthier coping strategies.
